During this period, increases were recorded in all areas, including hotel profits.
August is traditionally the best month of the year for tourism, but the good results recorded on this occasion have surpassed previous years to be the best in the history of the Costa del Sol. The president of Tourism on the Costa del Sol, Bendodo Elias, emphasized that never before has it exceeded 2.7 million overnight stays in the province, to which he added that for the first time it reached 1.1 million stays in tourist apartments. The data make it clear that non-hotel accommodation is a perfect complement that is not affecting the hotel business and also has a rising demand to which the Coast can cater for.
The effects of the increase numbers of tourists to the Costa del Sol has been amongst them, the profitability of hotels, with an average of 115.8 euros per room available is positioned far above the Andalusian and national average. It has also increased employment, with a rise of 7.7% and the average stay, which stands at 4.2 days. The chairman of the Tourist Board moved that this trend will continue into the final stretch of the year.
“According to forecasts airline seat bookings are expect to end the year with an increase of 20% from 1.6 million passengers in the last quarter of 2015 to 2.1 million expected,” he said.
